Pairing luxurious textiles from Turkey, Iran, and Syria with richly detailed 17th-century paintings by Dutch and Flemish masters, the exhibition A Thirst for Riches: Carpets from the East in Paintings from the West opens June 6 at the Aga Khan Museum. Running until October 18, the exhibition features signature carpets and paintings from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, supplemented by loans from the Textile Museum of Canada, Toronto; the Leiden Collection, New York; the Ackland Art Museum, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and the Marshall and Marilyn R. Wolf Collection, Toronto.
The Aga Khan Museum is proud to launch its third year of Performing Arts programming. Between April and June of this year, six showcase performances of music and dance, and seven films, shed light on the creative traditions of such countries as India, Iran, Syria, and Canada.
Featuring doors photographed over two decades in Iran, France, Morocco, and Italy, the evocative installation Abbas Kiarostami: Doors Without Keys takes visitors on a multi-sensory journey through memory and imagination. Arresting photographs of closed doors — printed at life size and mounted on canvas — are arranged in maze-like configurations, recalling the labyrinthine streets of an unnamed old city.
The Aga Khan Museum is pleased to welcome The McEwan Group as its new manager of food and beverage services. Effective immediately, Chef Mark McEwan leads the stunning Diwan at Aga Khan Museum, the casual Courtyard Café, and all catering for private events.
