CONSIGNOR SETS A NEW AUCTION RECORD FOR A RARE PENCIL SKETCH BY LAWREN HARRIS

The preparatory work for of one of Lawren Harris’s most renowned canvases, Lake Superior, sold for nearly five times its auction value setting a new record for a pencil sketch by the Group of Seven artist, fetching $161,000 (significantly above its pre-estimate of $20,000 – $30,000; all prices include a 15 per cent buyer’s premium, the lowest in the industry).

Beginning August 15th, Consignor launches its cross-country tour of Regina, Winnipeg, Halifax, Saint John, Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal, inviting Canadians to bring in works of art for free verbal appraisals and the chance discovery that they could be in possession of a hidden gem.

AUCTION DEBUT OF LARGE-SCALE SIGNATURE WORK BY GROUP OF SEVEN’S FRANKLIN CARMICHAEL IS POISED TO CHALLENGE RECORD

Two celebrated works by Franklin Carmichael are the centerpieces to Consignor Canadian Fine Art’s upcoming Spring Auction of Important Canadian Art taking place May 25th at the Gardiner Museum, Toronto. A largescale oil painting, Old Orchard (1940), will make its auction debut having been privately owned by the family of Herbert Laurence Rous, founder of the renown Rous and Mann printing studio where many of the Group of Seven artists began their careers.
