Bigger. Better. Funnier. JFL42, Toronto’s Comedy Festival, Celebrates Its Most Successful Year Yet!
Posted on October 1, 2014 at 11:10 am
Over 18,000 passes and single tickets purchased, almost 70% more than in 2013
A total attendance of over 42,000 at 181 shows over 10 days
Toronto, ON (September 29, 2014) – JFL42 2014, presented by Air Canada in association with SiriusXM, marked the Festival’s most successful year to-date. Taking over multiple venues across the city for ten straight days (September 18-27) including seven shows at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, this year’s JFL42 was the biggest, most star-studded lineup since the Festival launched in 2012. Passholders were treated to the likes of Seth Meyers, Lena Dunham, Nick Offerman, Amy Schumer, Joe Rogan, Wanda Sykes, Tim Minchin, Mike Birbiglia and many more.
SiriusXM hosted their annual Next Top Comic competition at the Randolph Theatre with Montreal-based Faisal Butt winning the contest and being awarded $15,000 in addition to a showcase at next year’s JFL42. SiriusXM also had multiple shows (Ben Miner, Ward & Al, and The Todd Shapiro Show) broadcasting live from JFL42 for two days during the Festival. Many of the JFL42 acts appeared as guests on their shows.
JFL42 is a pass-based interactive comedy festival created by Just For Laughs. Pass holders are given the opportunity to see their chosen headliner plus all of the 42 Festival acts over 10 days, along with the freedom to create their own schedule and experience. In turn, the demand created by pass holders for each of the Festival acts dictates how many shows each comic will perform and the size of the venue. It’s all processed through JFL42’s custom online reservation system and Festival App.
Below is a by-the-numbers recap of JFL42 2014:
13 — Venues dedicated to JFL42
181 — Number of JFL42 shows this year
