FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Toronto, November 11, 2014 – Cirque du Soleil’s KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities broke audience records in Toronto to become the most successful Cirque du Soleil show in Toronto to date, with more than 181,000 people attending the show over eight weeks. The next Canadian stop on the tour will be Calgary in March 2015.
KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities premiered in Toronto on August 28 and, due to overwhelming public demand, was extended multiple times before the show wrapped on October 26. Additional performances were also added throughout the show’s run to meet Torontonians’ insatiable curiosity.
Presented by Desjardins and directed by Michel Laprise, KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities is a tale in which time comes to a complete stop, transporting the audience inside a fantasy world where everything is possible. In this realm set in the latter half of the nineteenth century, reality is quite relative indeed as our perception of it is utterly transformed. The name of the show refers to the humble and strange characters that inhabit the Seeker’s Cabinet of Curiosities.
Here’s what select Toronto media had to say about KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities™:
“It’s the most joyous piece of theatre I’ve seen in years and it will lift your spirits right up to the stars. At the three-decade mark in their existence, it’s nice that Cirque du Soleil is proving to us all that life really does begin at thirty.”
- Richard Ouzounian, Toronto Star
“KURIOS reminds you of the remarkable things that humans can do with their bodies, and once your jaw has already dropped, the performers take things to an even higher level. (…) it delivers such a euphoric feeling from the beginning, one that lingers throughout your body for the rest of the night.”
- Sean Fitzgerald, Toronto Sun / QMI Agency
