FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sixty Celebrity Authors Heat Up Toronto’s Literary Scene
February 6 at The Book Lover’s Ball
Michael Ignatieff, Richard Peddie and Steven Galloway
among featured authors to attend
TORONTO, Jan. 14, 2014 – Sixty of Canada’s top authors will put aside their quill pens for one night to attend a black tie affair supporting Toronto Public Library — one of the busiest urban library systems in the world. Presented by Sun Life Financial, the 9th annual Book Lover’s Ball takes place February 6 at the Fairmont Royal York.
Up to 600 guests will have the rare opportunity to mingle with 60 celebrated authors over a culinary extravaganza designed by Food Network personality Lynn Crawford. Featured authors include former politician, Michael Ignatieff (Fire and Ashes); former CEO and President of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, Richard Peddie (Dream Job); acclaimed musician and author Dave Bidini (Keon and Me); erotic literature sensation, L. Marie Adeline (S.E.C.R.E.T. Shared); international bestselling novelist Steven Galloway (The Cellist of Sarajevo); member of parliament Olivia Chow (Memoir); and regular awesome guy turned awesome author, Neil Pasricha (The Book of Awesome).
Hosted by Cityline personality Tracy Moore, The Book Lover’s Ball will include a sparkling reception, a dazzling silent auction and “Adopt-a-Branch” fundraiser, and culminate in five chapters of entertainment, each based on a novel by bestselling authors Jason Mott, Steven Galloway, Kamal Al-Solaylee, Eva Stachniak and Suzanne Collins. Infused with an eclectic mix of mime, slam poetry, archery, music and fashion, the show will bring these much-loved books to life on stage in jaw-dropping style.
“A thriving Library depends on more than government funding to meet the needs of all its users,” said Heather Rumball, President of Toronto Public Library Foundation. “The generous support of The Book Lover’s Ball authors and attendees alike enables the Foundation to continue to enhance Library programs and resources that enrich both our city and individual lives.”
Over 72 per cent of Toronto’s adult population uses the Library. A recent study conducted by the Martin Prosperity Institute of the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto shows that Toronto Public Library creates over $1 billion in total economic impact for the City of Toronto, with every $1 invested in the Library generating $5.63 in value for Torontonians.
Last year The Book Lover’s Ball raised over $530,000 in support of enhanced Library collections, programs and services and community spaces.
At the Ball, the Foundation will announce the Library’s 2014 selection for One Book, a citywide book club that features engaging programs surrounding the featured book — part of Toronto Public Library’s annual Keep Toronto Reading Festival.
