A hit musical performance at Stratford comes to Toronto November 13

Toronto (October 8, 2014) — Embark on a musical journey back to 1960s’ New York at Stand By Me: The Music of the Brill Building, a one night only performance at the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre’s Al Green Theatre on November 13, 2014. This star-studded concert celebrates New York’s famous “hits factory”, the Brill Building, where some of America’s most famous tunes – such as Save the Last Dance for Me by the Drifters, Carole King’s Will you Still Love Me Tomorrow, and The Righteous Brothers’ You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling – came into being.

The show is the brainchild of former Nylon member Micah Barnes, winner of the 2014 Toronto Independent Music Award for Best Jazz or Instrumental Artist, who was inspired to recreate a live experience of ‘60s music with a talented group of Canadian musicians. Stand By Me thrilled audiences this past summer at various summer music festivals including Stratford Summer Music and the Toronto show promises to bring concertgoers to their feet. “For one night, we will turn the Al Green Theatre into the Apollo,” said Barnes.

Along with Barnes, the concert features bass singer and current Nylon member Tyrone Gabriel, JUNO-nominated recording artist and musical theatre star Gavin Hope, four-time JUNO Award-winning R&B and jazz singer Billy Newton-Davis plus Daniel Barnes on drums, Russ Boswell on bass and musical director Michael Shand who has worked with the likes of Matt Dusk, Jully Black and Johnny Reid.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Miles Nadal JCC Music Scholarship Fund, providing financial assistance to children and adults to participate in the Centre’s dynamic music programs.
